the king's trail

Yay!  Some new photos.  Thanks for being patient with me lately, everyone.  :)  I've been wanting to post these photos for a while.

These are from the King's Trail.  This is a very long trail that stretches on forever through rough lava fields that are otherwise extremely difficult to walk on (though the trail is considerably more tough to traverse than our modern sidewalks.)  It was developed by King Kalakaua in the 1870's.  If you want to read more of the history, you can visit this website.

It's really pretty, especially in the afternoon when the light is nice.  The trail runs alongside the resort here where we live so every once in a while I'll go for a walk on the trail.  These photos are from a while ago.

One of the things I love about my blog is that I get to post here all the photos that never make it to my website.  I am always taking tons of pictures and the sheer mass of them is far too overwhelming to include in my site - so that space is saved for what I consider my very bests.  But this page is special in a different way.

I get to share all the other photos I like, but don't necessarily love, and you guys get to come with me as I travel all of the beautiful places on this gorgeous big island.  :)  I hope you all enjoy.

In a lot of places, there are some really cool hieroglyphs that have been carved into the lava.  It's fun to see history just a five minute walk down the trail...
