Wow, can you believe that this will be my 100th blog post? Crazy! Maybe I should blow up some balloons and get out the noisemakers. Or not.
So I know I said in my last post I was too lazy to go take pictures of the tsunami damage in Kona. Well I lied. Later that evening Tim was like, "let's go to Kona!" and I'm like, "what for?" he says, "to take pictures, of course!" I sure do love him. He knows me so well. He'll take the time to do an hour and a half round trip drive just so I can take photos.
It's not often you move to Hawaii and the volcano erupts, there's an earthquake and a tsunami all in two weeks! So here you have it. Really the only editorial photos I think I've ever taken. Not very easy to look at. But incredibly fortunate compared to Japan.
There was sand everywhere.
Shop owners had their hoses out and were spraying down the streets.
Signs were completely uprooted.
Dead fish.
Newspaper stands, trash cans, signs, all kinds of things had been tossed about.
Some shops made it out virtually unscathed, while others were hit really hard.
The sidewalk was completely ripped up.
There were leftover puddles everywhere.
The pier was covered in sand.
Fences were chewed up.
The locals worked together to transport a broken outrigger canoe.
The yard of a seaside home.
An underground parking structure, flooded with sand.
Locals trying to clean up their shop as the night wears on.
And I couldn't help myself, I took a couple of pretty shots, too. It's still one of the most beautiful places on the planet. :)
